Today, we bring you a powerful and timely discussion with Leeann Blaskowsky, a board-certified neonatal nurse practitioner with over 40 years of experience in healthcare. Leeann's journey began at the bedside, caring for critically ill patients in the ICU and Neonatal ICU, where her compassion and expertise shaped her mission: to protect and nurture the most vulnerable lives—newborns.
Since 2009, Leeann has been on the front lines in Colorado, a state where the legalization of marijuana has brought challenges and hard lessons. Every day, she faces the daunting task of counseling families, especially mothers-to-be, about the risks of marijuana use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. What makes her story even more urgent is the growing number of babies born addicted, facing withdrawal and other severe health issues before they've even taken their first steps.
