Rob Decker’s story is one of trauma, addiction, survival, and redemption. Growing up in a home marked by violence, rejection, and instability, Rob learned early to numb emotional pain with alcohol and drugs. By his teens, he was already in juvenile hall, facing dangerous situations, and living with a deep sense of worthlessness. His 20s were consumed by addiction, chaos, and relationships that mirrored the dysfunction he grew up with.

Everything changed at age 29. After a toxic relationship spiraled into false accusations and police at the door, Rob attempted to take his own life by jumping headfirst from a third‑story loft window. His fall was altered by an awning — a moment he later understood as divine intervention. He survived, but suffered a devastating spinal injury, collapsed lung, and broken arms. Doctors told him he might never walk again.

While recovering in the hospital, Rob experienced what he describes as a supernatural moment of peace. He heard three clear promises: the charges will be dropped, the bills will be paid, and you will walk again. Within days, the accusations were dismissed, his medical debt was forgiven, and he began the long process of learning to walk.

But sobriety didn’t come instantly. For five more years, Rob battled addiction while trying to rebuild his identity. His turning point came on January 8, 2013, when — intoxicated and hiding under a porch after crashing his girlfriend’s car — he cried out to God and felt the weight of addiction lift. That moment marked the beginning of true recovery, forgiveness, and transformation.

Today, Rob is an author, speaker, husband, father, and founder of Rise As Lions, a nonprofit dedicated to helping people affected by addiction, trauma, mental health struggles, and isolation. Through community‑based programs like Recovery Rebels Softball, Rob creates spaces where people rediscover belonging, identity, and hope. His book, God’s Awning: From Rejection to Redemption, tells the full story of his trauma, suicide attempt, survival, faith, and restoration.

Rob’s message is simple and powerful: You are not your worst day. Your past does not disqualify your purpose. And the very thing that tried to destroy you can become the thing that helps someone else survive.
