Show Notes

Our guest today is Alexis Pleus, a civil engineer and dedicated educator who channeled her personal tragedy into a powerful force for change. After losing her oldest son, Jeff, to a heroin overdose in 2014, she discovered that the conventional wisdom and "dogma" she had been taught about addiction was fundamentally flawed. This devastating realization became her new mission.

In 2015, Alexis founded Truth Pharm, an organization dedicated to providing accurate information about substance use disorder, raising awareness, and reducing the stigma that she and her son faced. Her work is a testament to turning pain into purpose.

Alexis also created the National Trail of Truth, a memorial that honors those lost to the opioid epidemic and advocates for systemic change. This is more than a story about loss; it's a testament to the power of a mother's love and her relentless pursuit of a more compassionate and accurate understanding of substance use.

If you are in the Washington, D.C. area, the National Trail of Truth 2025 will be on Saturday, September 27th, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the National Mall.
