Show Notes

Steven May, our guest today, is a whistleblower who bravely exposed the troubling realities he witnessed while working at Purdue Pharma. Reflecting on his legal journey, May recounts the enlightening experience of the discovery phase, even though his case was ultimately dismissed on a technicality. His fight for justice reached various judicial stages, including a Supreme Court review, before it was dismissed, which May believes was influenced by governmental pressure.

At the heart of May’s case was the assertion that Purdue Pharma’s fraudulent misrepresentation of OxyContin’s efficacy during the approval process played a significant role in sparking the opioid crisis. He argued that had the drug not been approved based on these falsified claims, the widespread use that led to the crisis might have been prevented.

May’s role as a whistleblower in the Purdue Pharma scandal draws significant parallels to other whistleblower cases, such as Brooke Jackson’s revelations about Pfizer’s mRNA vaccines. He emphasizes that these cases share a critical premise: if pharmaceutical companies had not manipulated clinical data to falsely promote their products, many of these approvals—and the subsequent crises—could have been avoided.
