Show Notes

You're listening to a special episode, a powerful look at the human cost of the opioid crisis through the eyes of someone who saw it unfold from the inside.

Our guest today is Steven May, a former OxyContin sales rep for Purdue Pharma. Back in 1999, he was on the front lines, selling a drug he believed in. But as he saw the company's aggressive sales tactics and the rising addiction rates, Steven realized something was terribly wrong. He became a federal whistleblower, taking on one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the world.

Steven's legal battle against Purdue Pharma was a true David-versus-Goliath fight. His case, which he argues would've proven that Purdue's false claims were directly responsible for OxyContin's approval, reached all the way to the Supreme Court before it was ultimately dismissed on a technicality.

If you've watched the recent Netflix series Painkiller, you've seen the kind of company Steven was up against. For him, the show hits a little too close to home. Steven’s experience resonates with other high-profile whistleblower cases, such as that of Brooke Jackson against Pfizer’s mRNA vaccines. He's previously been interviewed by major news outlets like The New Yorker and France 24, and now, he’s ready to tell his complete story.

His story is a critical reminder of how one person can take a stand and uncover a systemic failure with devastating consequences.
